Enforcement officers (EOs) support trading standards officers (TSOs) in a range of specialist duties. They are called fair trading officers in some authorities and are recruited from diverse backgrounds, with various qualifications and experience.
Most are concerned with all aspects of enforcement, from serving orders to checking out cars which have had their speedometers tampered with or are not roadworthy.
EOs support Trading Standard Officers and provide help and advice by mediating between consumer and trader and give support up to and including county court involvement. This entails providing advice in relation to both civil and criminal legislation. Enforcement/fair trading officers also take part in training, talks and seminars to help trader and consumer groups.
