Graduates

The Trading Standards profession is always keen to talk to graduates, whether you have gained an accredited degree or one in a seemingly unrelated discipline.

By completing an accredited degree, you will already have covered all areas of Trading Standards work, as well as possibly gaining some practical experience. You are now in a position to apply for a job as a graduate trainee trading standards officer. In this role, you will be able to make good use of your theoretical knowledge and practical skills, whilst also preparing for full qualification to a Trading Standards Officer.

If you have graduated in other subjects, but are keen to join this challenging profession, then trading standards would still like to hear from you. Manchester Metropolitan University run an accredited graduate diploma course enabling students from an unrelated discipline to move into the field of trading standards. This is a one-year course that will give you insight into the profession and the knowledge you’ll require to undertake a trading standards career. On completion, you will need to gain practical work experience as a graduate trainee trading standards officer. This practical experience, combined with your recently gained theoretical knowledge means you are well prepared for full qualification to a trading standards officer.
