Process Guide for Students

Gaining the TSI qualification involves two main aspects - the examinations and the portfolio of evidence. You can complete your portfolio at the same time you are studying for the examinations or you can undertake the examinations and then submit your portfolio. The Qualification is modular and our framework is designed to be as flexible as possible to suit your lifestyle.

Here is a simple checklist for those wishing to gain professional TS qualifications:

Beginning your qualifications:

  • Register as a member of the Trading Standards Institute
  • Register for the CPPD with TSI (This is a benefit of membership so there is no extra cost to members)
  • Register into the qualifications framework by completing Form A

Studying for the qualifications:

  • Contact the accredited course providers and discuss your options
  • Register onto the course that is most suitable for you
  • Register for examinations by completing Form C
  • Sit examinations at the most suitable time – November or May

Portfolio of Evidence:

  • Upon registration, a portfolio disk will be sent to you
  • Undertake self assessment within the portfolio
  • Evidence your skills & experience in the portfolio
  • Submit the portfolio to TSI for external assessment

To continue through the framework to the Higher Diploma in Consumer Affairs & Trading Standards, students will also be required to submit a dissertation and undertake a final assessment by panel. You can then continue your development via the CPPD scheme. Further information can be found at ww.tsi.org.uk
