All pay scales are relative but it’s fair to describe trading standards salaries as good. Pay compares favourably with what you might earn in the police service, environmental health or customs and excise. Some authorities have salary enhancement schemes based on the acquisition of knowledge and experience.
Starting salaries vary but as a trading standard officer within a local authority, say with a couple of year’s experience, you can earn up to £30,000pa and with promotion you can earn in excess of £70,000pa – not overnight of course, but the opportunities are there.
